Physical Description:
Pale skin, a few freckles scattered across her nose and cheeks.
Athletic rather than physically strong after years playing zero-G football.
Very distinctive tattoo of Celtic origin running from under her right ear, down her neck, shoulder and down her spine.

Family & Personal History:
Single child of a single mother, she grew up on a variety of space-stations and orbiting ports.
Her mother was a dabo girl and small-time crook, so Niamh found she was often whisked away from her new home before she could really settle.
To this day, she still has issues with being in any one place for an extended period of time.

She has often cited her reason for joining Starfleet as being to add a bit of stability to her life. And the free beer nuts.

The upshot of having such a lonely childhood and a painfully shy demeanor to begin with, is that now, she makes friends easily, knowing how lonely it can be if you don't put yourself out there.

Educational History:
She worked very hard to gain entrance to the Academy, and even with a scholarship and an out-reach programme to help disadvantaged youngsters along, she found it immensely difficult. But, seeing the effects of age on her mother's looks, and how difficult life was becoming for them both as a result, fired her onwards. She studied every second she got, for both herself and her mother.

At the Academy, she soon overcame her shyness and swung to the opposite extreme.

Her many years on board old, broken-down stations became a odd kind of an advantage. Coming from a world where gravity could shut down any second made her far better at adapting to changing orientations than her classmates, and she soon found herself drawn (or possibly pushed...) towards aeronautics and navigation, with a minor in engineering systems and repair.

In her second year she gained a place on the second string shuttle display team, and she distinguished herself well both there and as a member of the Junior Academy Zero-G team.

By her third year she had been promoted to the first-string shuttle team and vice-captain of the Senior Zero-G team. She soon lost this position after it was discovered she had used the Zero-G court out of hours for a rather intimate date.
Nonetheless, they kept her on the team itself.

Medical History:
Good physical health.
She has had a few impact injuries from her competitive footballing days, but nothing major.
