XO Commander Jameson

XO Cmdr Jameson SD 11403.06

Her head throbbed. She knew she was out of practise, telepathically, and she hadn’t been given the time from the admiral to get herself in shape. Less than 24 hours.

On a level that she wanted to pretend was subconscious, Anya knew she was out of shape. She had trained people for command at the Academy. Taught them what to expect, how to react, and she taught them her own experience. A 5 year old experience.

It was hard coming back to it at a minute’s notice, and trying to pretend she’d been there the whole time. Kesh seemed natural, so much more natural at command than Anya remembered her at it. And it only made her XO seem more awkward.

But she would carry on pretending to the best of her ability. She wouldn’t let them all down. She would get back into her stride, hopefully sooner rather than later. Later could mean life or death, and no way would she allow that to happen.

She lifted herself from the sickbay bed, slowly getting up from her second collapse in as many days. She needed practise. And practise she would. Physically, mentally and tactically.

She smiled to herself. This will either be fun, or torture. Or, most likely, a little of both.

ACO Commander Jameson
SD 11404.10
She wasn’t hiding. No, she was working. Working in her Ready Room, still undecided on what to do. If Kymar and Sumner came back on board with evidence, solid evidence, hell, even enough to continue her suspicions that the outer colonies were mistreated, she had no idea what to do.
Anya had been sitting in the room for the last 20 minutes, trying to work out how she felt. Should she get the ship involved in something that wasn’t rightly their business, or do they do what they believe to be right, but breaking all the rules?
Craving a large glass of wine, and Kesh’s company in equal measure, she made do with a cup of tea, and talking to herself.
Walking back from the replicator, she made herself comfortable on the sofa.
Nothing can be decided for certain until all the evidence was in: The report from the surface, the electronic documentation of the lottery. But should that even be taken into account? The Prime Directive stands true, whatever the outcome.
She took a long drink from the steaming cup, hoping that the herbal concoction with help clarify. The final decision is this. Either follow the Prime Directive, or break it.
She knew what she would have done, back in the days of the Tal-War, when she was a soft pliable emotional Captain. And she knew that was why she didn’t last all that long, first time in command, preferring the books and the rugs and the warm weather of teaching on Earth.
She needed to stop relying on her emotions as her pathway. Logic, and safety, and rules. Rules. They were there to be followed, or to be broken? She shook her head, finishing her tea. It was about time she reappeared on the Bridge.
Without really wanting to admit it to herself, she believed herself at a decision. As she exited out of the Ready Room, having deposited the teacup in the replicator, she knew what she was going to do.

Log, Stardate 11404.17

Asylum.
She knew it was her own fault, that she encouraged it, but still. It meant that they had an alien on board. One whose planet came under the principle of the prime directive. On the level of an officer, as a humane person, she understood what Adalberto had done, and why he did it. She probably would have done the same. But as a Captain, it put her in a situation.

Lin had been beamed aboard without her authorisation. That would need to be noted. And her continued presence aboard the Hooke would be frowned upon. But there was no way that Anya was going to send that girl back down to those who would persecute her just for providing their engineer with information.
Jameson could think of no other way forward, that wouldn’t get them into even more trouble than they currently are. She started composing a top priority message to Starfleet, informing them of the Hooke’s present circumstances, their people on the group collating information, and the background as to how they ‘acquired’ Lin. She added that an immediate response was needed to determine their next movements: be it a withdrawal, or further action.

She sent the message, and sat back in her chair heavily.

XO Cmdr Jameson SD 11405.08

They chaffed. The material that rubbed against her skin was rough and coarse, and set her teeth on edge. She moaned a little as she turned, and she could feel that the material was constraining her. Anya began to struggle, writhing to get out of the bands of material, gasping for breath the more she moved, each turn making it harder as the panic set in.....

And she woke with a start, her face pressed against a combination of the desk in her quarters and a PADD. The PADD fell to the floor with a clatter that make her already adrenalin filled brain jump.
She hadn't had the dream in years. She knew it wasn't real, just an interpretation of her time spent wrongly imprisoned, so many years ago. But some scars don't fully heal, despite outward appearances. Ashington's death had shaken her more than she realised.
She had gone to her quarters rather than the bridge to write her report, wanting the calming influence of her room, now she no longer had a Ready Room at her disposal. Midway through her report, she must have dosed off. She couldn't lie, unexpectedly taking on the role of captain had left her sleep deprived, and the relief of merging the crew with the Breman, having a Captain again, had stopped her insomnia.
She knew she was contrary, the happy security of a crew and captain, yet at the same time a potential murder causing her nightmares.

As Anya re-pinned her hair and picked up the surprisingly finished report, she left her quarters to the Bridge, thinking that she wasn't exactly putting her best face forward for Captain Griffiths.
