ENG Ensign Raazni, Intro Log 11511.11

“Are we there yet?” The answer, for the fifth time, was no. The man who had asked it was a Bolian, blue and bald, with a thin white mustache that frankly looked stupid. Raazni had told him as much when he'd seen their seating assignments had them together for the long journey to the Bremen.

“I'll have you know this look was on the cover of Bolarus Barber's Monthly! What would you know about fashion? Did you get your hairstyle from the Renu IV Zoo Guide?”

Raazni let out a roar of laughter, partly at what had been said, and partly at how funny the little mustache looked bobbing up and down. “You're alright,” he told the Bolian.

Several hours later and the two hadn't shut up, regaling each other with interesting stories and jokes. “Oh, and then there was the time I tricked the Borg!” The Bolian enthusiastically rubbed his hands together ready to tell his tale.

“Ha!” came a noise from a couple of rows behind.

“There I was, on my little ship, minding my own business when two Borg cubes appear from nowhere. Transwarp. I nearly shat myself.”

“Ha!”

The Bolian ignored the noise. Raazni gestured for him to continue,

“Well, I heard that the Borg are quite impressed by shows of strength so I raised my shields and hailed them! 'This is the Great Klell, Emperor of this region! I demand you withdraw immediately.' Well, the conversation went on for a few minutes but eventually I convinced them I had a super weapon that could destroy them with a single shot!”

“And they withdrew?!” Raazni said, on the edge of his seat.

“Yep, just like that.”

The noise from the back had now turned into fully fledged laughter. Klell turned around to see. “What, you don't believe me...” His angered face faltered when he saw the laughing man.

“This is probably the closest you've ever come to anything Borg,” he said, pointing to the Borg implant above his left eye.

Raazni turned around as well. “Oh, that's cool...” he blurted out. “You must have been Borg. I've seen pictures of former Borg drones when we studied them at the Academy. I guess Andorians don't come out of assimilation looking as peachy as other species.” He gestured a webbed hand. “And don't get me started on the uni-tenna.”

“At least I have an excuse for being so ugly,” he replied, “What's yours?”

The Zaldan burst into laughter again and extended a hand. “Raazni,” he said.

“Thalev,” came the reply.

“Are we there yet?”

CEO Cmdr Anthony Adalberto & ENG Ens Raazni, 11601.01
With Einar as Tony Adalberto

Making Up Suder's Mind, Part 1

Well, slap me and call me a Ferengi, it was the brain of a former officer. One Kesh Suder, whoever the hell she was. Apparently, she had been quite the looker and rather popular based on the reactions of people around Raazni who had known her. Raazni had left the medical bay leaving the Doctors and Scientists to prod at the organs, but Raazni was an engineer, and as such he had an engineer's solution. But, he'd need help, and he wasn't even sure it could be done.

He quickly located the Chief Engineer in his office. "Chief," he said, as if Adalberto was already on the same wavelength, "Brain and heart... holographic body."

The Chief looked up from his PADD, his look grim. “Raazni is it?”

"Oh, sorry, yes, Ensign Raazni. Looking forward to working with you." He paused as if indicating the end of small talk, but looked anxious to continue all the while. "So, the box had a brain and heart. Someone called Kesh? Well, I thought why not hook it up to the holodeck, see if there's anyone still in there."

Tony had heard, of course, how could something like this not be the scuttlebutt of the century. And instead of rushing to help, he had sat here, mulling over the last time he had gotten his hopes up she was alive….and now, like out of a soap holo-opera, she was within his reach once more. Did he even want to help?

“It’s not that simple, kid.”

"I don't recall saying it was," he replied, "and don't call me kid. I'm asking if it is possible. This can't be the first time someone came up with the idea."

Tony leant back in his seat and grinned at the man “Don’t call me kid, sir….other than that, no you’re right, it’s been done before if my memory serves.”

Raazni grinned. "Okay," he said as he turned to a console and requested appropriate information. "USS Scimitar, under Captain Thalev Idrani. Wait, that's the guy from the shuttle... former Captain? Huh... Stardate 11312.09. That the one you remember?"

“Yeah, but that Smurf had nothing to do with it. Look back to Stardate 10708.13” Tony handed a PADD to the young Ensign, “The original matrix that was used in 12.09…yeah I had the same idea this morning.”

"Of course you did," Raazni replied with a hint of disbelief. He tapped the console again to bring up more information. "Stardate 10708.13... Well, according to this, Idrani was the Operations Officer, a certain 'Ensign' Sara Sumner was also on board, and Anthony Adalb... oh, so you HAVE had this idea before. Good news is, if we get the go ahead for this idea, there are plenty of people already on board who have had some sort of experience with this before. Bad news is they might just be the very people it is hardest to convince to do it again."

“Truth be told, kid, there’s a lot I don’t know about the Lorriana matrix. It was a piece of alien tech that infected our computer systems. Since her….’removal’, the code was handed over to the Daystrom Instititute for study. What they managed to piece together is what this Doctor York used back in 12.09, but from their logs that code did some serious damage to their computer core while it tried to compile……but the Bremen, she’s new and has the best processors in use today…..and what we also have, is a brilliant computer specialist onboard who was there, Idrani.”

"Well, let's get him down here," Raazni replied.

When Idrani walked into the CEOs office, it was the first time he'd ever done so without being in a uniform. He wore comfortable looking civilian clothes instead, but they were practical as if he were always expecting something to happen that would disturb his retirement. "You wanted to see me?" His sole antenna leaned forward a little.

"Yes, yes, we wanted to ask you about Lorianna, and whether we can use a similar idea with Suder's brain." The Zaldan spoke quickly.

Idrani walked over to a chair and took a seat, his leg bothering him today. "Lorianna... now there's a name I've not heard in quite some time. I'd almost forgotten. That was from over a century ago..."

Raazni flippantly replied, "A century? You must be off your rocker... but... well, anyway, go on."

Tony shook his head, “Don’t ask….he loves flaunting his age”

"I've heard the scuttlebutt..." Idrani turned to Adalberto, realising with some irony that neither he nor Tony were the most annoying person in a room. "Is it really Kesh?"

Tony just nodded “So I’ve heard, but it doesn’t matter….this is a solid idea that has some prior success, it has even been recreated somewhat by a Doctor York once.” He handed the Andorian the PADD containing the report, realizing suddenly how weird this whole situation was. “Thanks for helping, Captain.”

"Captain? Just Thalev nowadays." Idrani shook his head. "But this is different. This is... backwards. When we did it with Lorianna, we already had the intelligence in the computer and we created a holographic matrix for it. Here, it's a brain... it's more complex, it's not like you have data that can be transferred between two systems. You're talking about creating an interface for a brain." He paused, the possibilities going through his mind. "Wait... are you talking about finding a way to reconnect her physical brain to a hologram, or interfacing with it, seeing if you can upload anything from it... it's too complicated. Kesh was an emergent property of her brain, it's not as easy as just plugging it in... is it?" Clearly, it was a little overwhelming, made even more so by the fact this was Kesh. He remembered long chats with her over subspace. She'd regularly call to ask advice when she became an Executive Officer. And now they were talking about her like some computer program. "I'm not making sense, I know... I think that just shows how hard this could be. I'd like to say it will work, but the truth is it probably won't. But 'probably won't' is better than not trying at all, assuming you can convince Sara... er, Captain Sumner."

“Doctor York did it with a living subject to save a degrading brain” Tony added bringing up the right files. “Took the computer 16 days to compile the neural patterns.”

Raazni paced across the office. "So, this York fellow, he must be some sort of genius." Idrani grunted. Raazni continued, "Why don't we see if we can get him on subspace?"

Tony raised an eyebrow at Idrani “You wanna tell the kid, or should I?”

"He's an asshole," the Andorian said as if this was old news and should be obvious to everyone. "You'd squeeze water from a rock before York did anything to help anyone. Even if he was, he probably wouldn't be sober enough."

Tony chuckled, finding truth in Idrani’s choice of words even though he had only met the Doctor briefly. “You take point on gathering data, kid. Call the old ass up and see if he can help….he’s not likely to help us.”

Raazni nodded. "Right away, Sir." He nodded thanks to Idrani and walked out of the office.

Idrani stood, padd in hand. "I'll take a good look at this, don't worry. We owe it to Kesh. I just hope we get permission to proceed." He walked over to the door. "Call me if you need anything in the meantime."

“Sure…” Tony added awkwardly now that Raazni had left the office. “See you later then.”

So, I've been trying to choose a favourite but in this log, and I just can't. There's so much packed in here, guys. Well done.
I love seeing Idrani and Adalberto very one grudgingly well, I really enjoyed the banter all round, and the prospect to dragging York into the mix is just wonderful.

Great log!
