Clearly we're gonna need to sterilize all Starfleet personnel. If anyone asks, it's Danann's fault.

11507.27 The News (Edited Version)
Isabelle rounded the corner to her quarters, just returning after the end of her shift. It had been a busy day, but all of the medical supplies for Tefoy had been loaded onto the ship, and the list of patient physicals had been whittled to almost nothing. She arrived at her door, surprised to find Soule was waiting for her..

He beamed as he spotted her coming towards him, desperately trying to hide the nervousness he felt, hoping he wasn't about to hurt or anger her. Behind his back, he clutched a purple and yellow crocus; hoping she remembers the last time her gave her one. As she approached closer, he produced the flower, holding it out gracefully for her.

"Imzadi." He whispered.

“Imzadi…” she gave him a wide smile. “It’s good to see you.” She kissed a greeting on his lips, and took the flower in her hand. “Such a beautiful crocus. This is a nice surprise.” She opened the door. “Come in.”

He followed in behind her, and upon the door closing and with a flick of the wrist; he took her hand and spun her in a gentle twirl into his arms. "Just had to see the most beautiful gal in the galaxy." He smiled at her innocently.

“You’re in a good mood tonight..”, she grinned at him. Then realisation hit her. “Uh oh.. did I forget a date or something? I know I’ve been busy lately “

"No. Not at all. I just wanted to see you." His smile dropped a smidgen and he gave a little sigh. "But... I do have news. And it's not news I think you're going to like." He squeezed her tight.

“Soule.. “ she looked into his eyes, her face becoming serious. “What’s going on?”

He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, before looking back into her serious eyes. "I have to go away and... and... and I can't tell you why..." His face began to progressively become sadder.

The world around her seemed to go out of focus, and his words didn’t seem to make any sense. “I.. I don’t understand.. “ she finally managed to stammer out. “what.. happened?”

Soule held her close, resting his head on hers and spoke softly into her ear. "I've been called away for a classified mission." He pulled back a bit, so he could keep looking into her eyes.

She calmed down a little bit, but her face remained serious, processing what he’d said. She looked down for a moment and back up at him. “…for how long?”, she asked quietly.

"I don’t know...."

She recognized the look in his eyes.. she’d seen it before, during the war. It was as if he didn’t know if he was coming back. She swallowed hard, in a dry throat. This didn’t seem real. The war was supposed to be over.. “…and when.. do you have to leave?” Her voice trembled.

"I don’t know...."

She nodded slightly, still in a daze. “I.. suppose they won’t let you tell me that either.. I.. um, I should probably sit down.”

"I have to leave in a few days." He took her hands and escorted her to the sofa.

She sat down, sinking into the soft cushions. “at least.. you don’t have to leave right away.” She held him close, burying her head in his shoulder. “I’m going to miss you..”

"No..." He cupped her cheek, stroking it with his thumb. "...I'm not leaving right now. After this mission...." He sighed. "And I will miss you.... sooo much."

"Are... are you angry?"

“No, don’t worry.” She looked at him with glistening eyes, giving him a small smile through the tears that were starting to form. “We.. accepted this when we became Starfleet officers.. that we might not come back someday from a mission. I... just thought things would settle down, now that the war is over.. but, with the latest news, the president’s death.. I guess there’s still more war left to fight.”
She finally broke down, just sobbing into his shoulder. They had come through the war intact just for him to be sent away now..

"Please don't cry." He kissed her forehead and the tip of her nose, nuzzling at her. "I will come back..."
“I hope so..” she replied. She gazed into his eyes, her tears subsiding; nestling into his embrace. “I’d miss you too much otherwise.”

He gently pressed his lips against her's in a tender kiss, closing his eyes; trying to hide how unsure he really was of his promise.

She kissed him passionately in return; covering his mouth with hers, twining her trembling hands through his hair. “I love you..” she breathed.

He continued to stroke her cheek, running his other hand down her back; holding her close. He started to kiss and nibble her neck. "I love you too." He whispered into her ear. He pulled back for a second, to just look at her, gaze into those sparkling blue gems, before kissing her passionately again.

She smiled between his kisses, lifting her chin as he moved down her neck, still trembling. “Stay with me tonight..”, she whispered, as they kissed once more.

He was lost in their embrace; he tried to say yes but he couldn't part their lips. He just nodded managing to get out an "Ok".

“Good. I.. was hoping....” she breathed again, between kisses, “you’d .. say ...that..” as she moved down his neck.

His heart raced, beating like a jackhammer in his chest. He hoisted Izzy onto his lap so she was looking down on him… "I... would have... to be... insane to not." His jaw quivered as she kissed his neck.

In a flurry of kisses and sighs and racing heartbeats; and a trail of clothing leading to the bedroom, they became entwined in each other. Murmurs and whispers and giggles rose above the hum of the ship..

“You’re purring.. It’s nice..”
"I am...?" He replied in a daze.
“You are…”

…“I may have a few scars and a couple of tattoos you don't know about."
“Scars don’t bother me, and I don’t mind tattoos; they’re a part of you, after all..“
He giggled. "Well, I thought I'd mention it... nobody ever sees them. I keep the scars especially private."
"I.. uh.. don't think they're going to be private much longer.."
"I don’t want them to be anymore."…

He gazed at her; admiring her curves, and the soft touch of her skin. He traced his finger around a mole on her back; an imperfection so beautifully displayed just for him. He kissed along her shoulder and down her neck, blissfully taking in the scent of her perfume.

She just marveled at him, admiring his own curves, angles, muscles. The scars.. yes, there were more than she thought there would be, but they didn’t detract from his form. The tattoos, told the story of who he was.. She met his lips with hers with a blissful sigh.

He teased her, pulling his lips away so she'd chase him, but he couldn't help but become transfixed by that sparkle in her eyes every time he gazed into them.

…"Mmm, you are feisty."
“Yes.. I am.” …

…"Je t'aime ma chérie."
Je t’adore, Imzadi..” …

Soule caressed Izzy's back, as they lay there in a daze, whilst blearily gaping at her strewn across his chest. His breathing staggered and his heart still thumping. He mustered a chuckle as he noticed a conspicuous bite mark on her shoulder, and wondered if there were any on him. He snuggled up to her and she sighed blissfully, wrapped in his arms.

“This… is more like how I imagined it..”

He kissed the top of her head, worked his way down her forehead and nose, and with a longing gaze into her eyes gave her a tired but blissful and passionate kiss on the lips. He tickled the tip of her nose with his and smiled. "Mmmm. Yeah."

“mmhm..” She smiled and closed her eyes, relaxing and laying her head on his chest again, listening to his heartbeat as it slowed.

He held her close and sighed happily; basking in the ecstasy of the moment, not wanting to let Izzy go. He had forgotten why he had originally come to see her, but he was beyond caring in that moment; everything felt just perfect.

Held close by Soule, Isabelle wanted to bottle that moment and keep it forever. She felt peaceful and happy; with the days and hours ticking down before he had to leave, she wanted to savour every last second.
“I’m glad you could be here tonight.”

"So am I... I couldn't miss a second with you for anything." He sighed remembering the mission, and nuzzled her for comfort; purring again at how happy she made him feel.

“Neither could I..” She reached down and pulled the coverlet up around them both. She was tired, but reluctant to sleep just yet, just content to stay snuggled up against him.
“Wherever it is you’re going… I’ll be thinking of you. Just.. try to make it back home, ok?”

He ran his fingers through her hair and down her cheek, focussing his bleary eyes on her. "The heavens couldn't stop me. I'd fight my way out of Sto'vo'kor, to return to you. The Tzenkethi are in for a surprise if they think they can get in my way. I promise, my love... my Imzadi."

She gazed back at him with an expression of pure love, and pulled him close in a deep passionate embrace. "I know you will.. Or I'll go into Sto'vo'kor myself, and find you.."

"I'll be the one surrounded by piles of unconscious Klingons, spouting fury that would make a Nausicaan blush."

She laughed, a sparkle in her eyes. “then you will be easy to find..”

He didn't say anything to that, he just smiled and kissed her, savouring every second their lips touched; a reminder of what he's fighting for.

11508.10 Hippocratic Oath

“Doctor. I expect you to be just that. A doctor. Find the cure and treat these people. Anybody that needs it. We can't do much else, but we can do that.”

Isabelle knew exactly what Rojer meant by that statement. Follow the Hippocratic oath.
I will apply, for the benefit of the sick, all measures which are required…

If they simply delivered the medication and got out, the problem would not be solved. Those in charge would probably keep it for the higher classes. If they gave it to the lower castes, the ones who desperately needed it, it would likely be in the form of rationing or selling it at high cost, instead of freely distributing it. A government that would let a plague fester for two years without doing anything about it because the people affected were not “good” enough.. didn’t deserve to be trusted to take care of its own people.

There were many things about this situation that didn’t make sense. Why did they ignore it for two years? Why only ask for help from the Federation when the disease spread from the lower castes to the upper? Why ask for help from outsiders instead of looking for help amongst their own people…? And why did they not provide enough information to those from whom they were asking for help?

Still, as a doctor, she was sworn to take care of those who needed it.
If the Teffan government didn’t give them enough information to fight this disease, then they would have to look for the information themselves. Which meant they would have to take every measure they had to protect themselves. They didn’t know how the disease was spreading, or how long the incubation period was. The virus had not, apparently, been isolated yet, so no cure was being worked on. They were basically starting from scratch. And if they were going to be any use here, they needed answers..

11508.24 Hippocratic Oath, part 3 (joint log: Izzy and Vitro)
Sickbay was bustling with activity as various members of the medical staff scurried around, taking care of the eight Teffens that had been beamed aboard from the afflicted planet. Isabelle had been splitting her time between looking at lab results, coordinating medical teams on the planet, preparing her report for Commander Lyon, and caring for the diseased Teffens.

She looked up at Vitro, still standing in the corner. “Vitro, maybe you can do something for me. Did Soule program you with any field medic training? I really could use a hand right about now.”

Vitro looked up from the focused daze he was in, staring at the Teffens; tilting his head curiously he pondered Isabelle's question. "I have knowledge of basic first aid and triage... however, my only use of it in practice has been to bandage Soule up after a training session." He looked away again for a second and processed her request some more. "But I am more than willing to assist you Isabelle." He smiled at her reassuringly.

She grinned at him, wondering just how often Soule had required first aid that he hadn’t told her about yet. "So you've had plenty of experience with first aid.. I'll have you start with basic care then."

She handed him a medkit with some basic equipment and medications inside. "We are still in the first stages of developing a cure for this disease, so the only thing we can do for them so far is treat their symptoms, and make them as comfortable as possible. Some of them will have fevers; others, like Tiga here, have lesions that need treating. Others may need anti-nausea medication. Or they may simply need food and water, or just a kind word. Thank you Vitro, I really appreciate this.”

He thought about it for a moment and chuckled. "He is not the easiest person to harm... but there have been occasions." He took the kit and slung it around his shoulder with a smile. "And I am eager to learn and adapt to this new situation."

He hung onto Izzy's every word as she conducted his gaze between the Teffens, he felt a deep unease and displeasure at the sight. His matrix glitched for a split second, although he continued, fixated on the horror as if nothing happened, before looking back to Izzy; realising she had stopped talking.

"I do not believe I can fully adapt to this though..." He had a dull and sad look in his eyes. "We must... help these people." As he looked down at the sick child on the biobed, his brow furrowed before slowly becoming a scowl. "I will endeavour to do my part Doctor."

“I’m not sure that anyone can adapt to this.. and I wouldn’t want them to. What their government did to them is horrible. To attempt to get rid of an entire group of people.. just because they aren’t considered ‘convenient’...” She shook her head, her face had a sad expression on it also. “Vitro, you should have seen how indifferent their leader was towards them. They were right to seek asylum. We’ll do everything we can to help them, don’t worry.”

"I have seen some of the historical accounts of Earthen wars, the atrocities committed upon ethnic groups deemed inferior to those in power. The literature does not prepare one for this; that such things still occur in this century."

He opened his medkit and began examining its contents as he looked around working out what would be required for who, his gaze still being commanded by the sick child. "I believe I feel anger, Isabelle."

She nodded grimly. “Anger is very appropriate. No-one deserves this. And you’re right, it’s very much like certain dark periods in Earth history. I never thought I’d see anything like this with my own eyes either.. ”

She looked at the readouts on Tiga’s bed while Vitro went over his medkit. “Tiga’s breathing is getting worse. She’ll need a dose of Tri-ox. Fortunately though, her fever is going down.”

She sat down next to a second patient nearby, greeting her. The woman looked back at her with hollow eyes, and a desperate look on her face. “Please, my son is still down there somewhere. Can you find him? His name is Vonn, he’s only eight years old.”

Isabelle comforted her as best she could, giving her a gentle smile. “We’ll do what we can, I’ve got medical teams down there now. I will have them look for him. Meanwhile, let’s get you some food and medicine.”

Vitro removed a hypospray and filled it with a tri-ox cartridge, he hovered above Tiga not sure what to do, looking to Izzy for guidance. She was with another patient and he didn't want to disturb her, so he stared at the hypospray for a moment, before finally putting it gently to the childs neck and administering the dose. He startled at the unfamiliar hiss and started pacing around the bed, watching the child breathe, his head bobbing around like a bird.

As her breathing cleared slightly, he backed away sighing with relief, and turned to Izzy and her current patient. "Is there anything I can acquire for you ma'am?"

She looked up at him and smiled. “Yes, how about a standard nutritional supplement for Lina here? You can ask one of the nurses if you need help with the replicators.” She looked over towards Tiga for a moment, and noted that her oxygen levels were improving. “The tri-ox seems to be working, you did a fine job.”

He smiled back. "I know how to use a replicator. I find them... familiar." He pondered on how wonderous they were and the parallels between replicators and holoemitters; how they made something from nothing. "I will retrieve that for you." He smiled again at Izzy and looked to Lina, crossing his hands about his chest and giving a courteous bow, before pottering off to the replicator.

While Vitro was busy at the replicator station, Isabelle turned her attention towards Lina, examining her. She had the same type of lesions that Tiga did, although not as advanced. The welts were formed, but the skin was not broken. There was a good chance that she was not contagious yet. She finished up the exam just as Vitro returned. Lina seemed to relax as she was being cared for, and looked at them both with a calmer expression.

"Here you go; a standard nutritional supplement." He held it out for Lina. "I am unsure of the flavour, although I would wager that the flavour is not the point. It should help restore your body's natural balance and quell any sensations of hunger you may be feeling."

“Thank you,” Lina replied gratefully, taking the supplement. She carefully broke off a corner and tasted it, then ravenously ate the rest.
“It’s much better than what we’ve been scrounging. You can’t imagine what we’ve been forced to eat..when we find food at all. “

Isabelle watched the two of them thoughtfully as they interacted. If he chose to cross-train as an emergency medic, Vitro’s calm bedside manner and willingness to learn would be an asset to the crew.

"Sadly, I cannot, I do not possess the ability to eat and taste. But I believe I understand. You are safe from such treatment here. Please do not hesitate to call if you require more sustenance; I will be close by and it would be my pleasure to assist you in any way I can. My name is Vitro." He gave a gentle smile and bowed his head again, before pottering off to enquire whether any of the others required food.

“I think you’re all set for now, Lina,” Isabelle stood up and prepared to see the next person in line. “I’ll be back in a little while to check on how you’re doing.”

She stepped away and looked at the report she was writing, adding a few notes here and there from her observations of the latest patient. She sighed sadly. This disease was insidious, invading every organ and system in the body until the victim eventually died slowly and painfully. How anyone could conceive of genetically engineering such a virus, and then deliberately infect thousands of their own people, she would never understand.

Vitro assisted one of the older patients to a biobed. He had been restless and irritable, wanting to return to his home, and in his haste to stand up, he had become lightheaded and woozy; stumbling over. Vitro caught him and held him in place, until the Teffen's bearings returned.

"You should not be up sir, you must rest."

“I want to go home!” the Teffen man repeated emphatically. “What is this place anyway?” He was agitated and obviously delirious.

Vitro carefully guided the man towards the bed, leading him by the arm, patting his hand gently. "You are aboard a starship, sir, in a medical bay. You are here to be made well again. You cannot return home yet, you require sustenance and rest."

The man looked quizzically at him, clearly not understanding where he was. “You’re not Tulin.. Are you here to take me away? Why do I feel so warm…?”

"No, I am not Tulin, sir. I am Vitro. I will not take you anywhere against your will, except to a comfortable bed for you to rest in. And if the temperature is not to your liking, it can be altered accordingly to better suit your needs? But I would ask that you please sit, whilst a doctor sees to you." Vitro didn't quite understand the state the old man was in, but he tried to speak clearly and calmly so as to not offend or intensify the disorientation of the man.

Isabelle looked up from her report, overhearing part of the conversation. She approached, stepping up beside Vitro. “It’s all right Vitro, you’re doing fine. Let me have a look.” She smiled at the old man. “What can I do for you?” She took out a tricorder and began scanning him.

“Sarila?” The old man still seemed to be confused. “I’m not at home, am I..?”
“No, you’re in a hospital. We’re taking care of you. You’ve got a fever. I’m going to give you some medicine. Also, if you’re hungry, we’ll get you something to eat and drink.”

“Oh good. Is there any Jacli root stew? That’s my favorite...”

She nodded, saying “I’ll see what I can do. Meanwhile, this should help bring that fever down.” She gave him a dose of the medication, and the old man settled down a bit and lay back on the bed.

“Vitro, just get him another one of the supplements for now. We don’t have any Teffen food in the database yet. I’ll have to ask someone for that recipe…”

Vitro stepped aside and watched as Izzy examined and calmed the old man, he was intrigued by how she did it; her calm demeanour, the soothing smile... he has much to learn.

"Yes doctor, right away." He nodded, before rushing off again to the replicator. He quickly returned with the supplement in hand, and gave it to the patient. "It is not Jacli root stew, but it is sustenance nonetheless."

The man ate the food as hungrily as Lina had earlier, then dozed off, his belly full probably for the first time in days. Isabelle looked around sickbay; almost all of the beds were now filled. The medical staff was going to be very busy for the next few days, and she didn’t yet know how many more Teffens would be seeking asylum.

“Vitro, you can stay for as long as you’d like, I’m sure we’re going to need you. And I’ll let Soule know that you’ve been a big help down here..”

"I can stay for as long as I am required, doctor. I am happy to do so." He smiled. "And thank you; Soule has been encouraging me lately to expand my horizons, to.... find purpose. I have found helping here to been most rewarding."

“I’m glad to hear it.” She smiled back at him. “If you would like to learn more, you can come visit me anytime. I’ll be happy to teach you.”

"Thank you Isabelle, I would very much like that. I am finding this biological learning more beneficial than digital learning. Things are less abstract and I am more able to commit things to my semantic memory, as opposed to the wash of esoteric information within the cloud of my database."

She nodded. “It’s true, the most important part of medicine is interacting with people directly. You’re not just treating a body with symptoms, but a mind and spirit as well.. Abstract learning doesn’t always teach you that.”

"I agree." His excitement diminished somewhat as he surveyed sickbay. "It has been eye opening. I only wish the circumstances were different."

"I do too. But, I hate to think what would have happened to these people if we had not been here for them. At least now, there’s a hope that they will have a better life.”

"I hope we can help them, doctor." He looked to her and forced a smile. "Do you require any sustenance, Isabelle?" He asked, noting that the stress of the day may have exhausted her.

"I think we will be able to." She smiled reassuringly back at him. "I should have results from the lab soon, which should be one step closer to a cure.."
She stifled a yawn, looking up at Vitro. “You know, I haven’t even thought about it. It has been a few hours since I’ve had any food. But I can’t take a break yet, how about a cup of coffee for now? Maybe Soule and I will get something to eat later on..”

"I shall appropriate that for you, with haste doctor. I believe there are multiple variations... how do you take it?"

"Espresso, double strong, no sugar. That should keep me going for a few hours. Thank you Vitro, that's very kind of you."

"You have been kind to me; ever since I was activated. A coffee is nothing in comparison to the kindness you have shown me." He gave one last smile, before plodding off to obtain Izzy her coffee.

11509.21 At the Day’s End (Izzy and Soule)

Isabelle paced as the last of the returning medical teams from Beta shift rematerialised, coming back from Tefoy’s surface. In orbit, The Hyperion’s three sections were still separated, a show of force reflecting the situation on the planet below.
“How many more people are left down there?” She asked of the transporter technician.
“Just a few more, Ma’am. The last batch is coming up…now.” He punched the last few codes into his console, and several more officers materialised onto the platform.

“Soule..” She beamed a wide smile at him as his silhouette became solid once again.

He was dirty and bedraggled looking; he had been on the planet, establishing command posts and guard towers in the ghettos of Teffin. He'd stacked two extra shifts onto the two he'd started the day off with, and the day wasn't over yet; he was exhausted. He sighed and clenched his eyes closed for a moment, before they focused on Izzy.

He sighed a second sigh of relief, and pulled himself together. "Izz...!" His fatigue depressing his excitement, he had to rely on looking into her eyes as she approached him to relay how good it was to see her.

She’d been on duty for far too many hours today herself. The promise of an imminent cure had kept her going through two shifts, and half of a third before she’d left sickbay for the evening. With any luck, there would be results to show by the time the medical fleet arrived in the morning. For now though, all she wanted was to spend time with Soule.

“You look ready to drop..” She moved forward as he stepped off of the platform, offering him her hand to steady him so that he would not stumble. “But I’m very glad to see you.” She reached up to kiss his cheek.

He ignored the hand and just wrapped his arms around her, he squeezed her tight, and may have even lifted her off her feet a little; his muscles ached so much he couldn't tell. He kissed her on both cheeks and rested his forehead on hers.

"How do you look so god damn gorgeous after having the same day as me." He mustered a chuckle. "I'm so happy to see you."

She sighed happily, hugging him tight in return; giggling as he lifted her off the floor. “I missed you.. The day was too long.” She leaned into his embrace, just content to feel his arms around her.

"How has everything been going up here? How is the cure coming?" He relaxed a bit, and let her down, and shook off thinking about work for a moment. "You wanna grab a drink?"

"I’d love to go get a drink, that sounds perfect." She smiled wearily. "We've been working on the cure almost non-stop for the past couple of shifts now, and it looks like the end is in sight. There’s almost no significant side effects anymore, and the first patients who got nanoprobe injections are showing very good results too. And, Vitro’s been a big help in sickbay too; he’s been working on his medical assistant training.” She slipped her arm around his waist as they walked out of the transporter room to the turbolift.

"Really?" He sounded surprised. "I had no idea Vitro had an interest in medicine; I'm glad he's finding himself. And I'm glad a treatment is coming along, it's got worse down there; I mean we've stabilised the situation... but it's still tense and unsustainable. I've got teams all over the planet trying to restore order, and they're doing the best they can... but we can only really stem the tide until reinforcements arrive."

He took comfort in her arm around his waist, and slung his arm over her shoulder. "No more work for the moment though, I think we both need to relax for five... twenty minutes."

“As a plus, Vitro’s been keeping me sane while having to work with that new science ensign… I swear, if he calls me ‘doll’ one more time…. “
They approached the turbolift and stepped inside, waiting a moment as a few more medical personnel exited past them on their way to the transporter room. “But you’re right, enough about work. Computer, Lounge.”
The doors swished closed, and the turbolift sped on its way.

Soule laughed as she mentioned the new science officer. "Fill him in Izz."
He thought about being really defensive of her, but knew full well she could handle herself; and especially just some annoying ensign.

As the turbolift got underway, he wrapped his arms around her waist and swayed a little, kissing her shoulder and neck. "It'll be nice to sit down."

She grinned at him, then sighed contentedly as he wrapped his arms around her waist. “It certainly will be. I’m sure you’ve been on your feet for a very long time today. Probably a lot longer than me.. ” The tension in her shoulders dropped as he kissed her; she giggled as his beard tickled her neck.

"Maybe... I cant remember when I could last feel my feet." He continued to kiss her neck wondering what she was giggling about, before realising his beard was starting to get long and scruffy. "Sorry. I've neglected to shave in a while."

“It’s ok, it’s been a busy few days. And besides,” she said, “It’s nice, it’s just starting to get curly..” She tickled his cheek right about where a few of the straggly hairs were trying to escape from his normally neatly kept beard, and kissed his lips gently, draping her arms around his neck.

He giggled; content in Izzy's company, holding her close and swaying happily as they kissed. Before they knew it the turbolift came to a halt, the doors opened, and the pair were interrupted by the awkward coughs and sighs of officers waiting to use the lift, trying to avoid eye contact. Soule looked out of the door, and stared at those waiting pointedly for a moment in amusement, before taking Izzy's hands. "I think this is our stop."

Isabelle only glanced at the seemingly embarrassed crewmembers who were waiting, not giving them another moment’s thought before taking Soule’s hands.
“Oh, hey Phelps,” she absentmindedly greeted one of the medical staff as the two stepped out of the lift into the corridor, leaving the officers and turbolift behind them.

“Let’s see if there are any good tables.” She smiled up at Soule. The door to the lounge swept open as they passed through.

The lounge was full of people in between rotations to the planet; some having just returned, others getting ready to go. Everyone was visibly exhausted, plenty had fallen asleep in their seats. As a consequence; it was eerily quiet for the number of people there. There wasn't any good spots that were free, but Soule clocked Evans asleep in a corner booth by the window. "There's nowhere to sit." He leant in to whisper to Izzy, and pointed at Evans unconscious form. "But I can get us a seat." He winked.

“Oh, how?” she asked curiously. Evans stirred slightly and shifted, but fell asleep again; his drink was half finished in front of him. The corner booth was one of the best tables there, it was a shame it was taken…

He gave her a peck on the cheek, and strode up to Evans quietly; looming over him ominously. "Evans...." He whispered. "Evans..." He said again louder.

Evans stirred slightly, chattering his lips. "G...go 'way ma!" He murmured back.
Soule looked around with a smirk on his face after being called ma, he leant in closer. "EVANS!!!!"
Evans awoke in shock, his tired head skittering on his shoulders as he looked around the lounge to regain his bearings. "Wha... what...what... what... what's happening."

"Go to bed Evans."
"I can't, I've got a rotation at 05:00."
"It's 05:20 Evans...."

Evans jumped up. "I'm late... I'm late..." He scrambled for the door. "I've gotta get down to the planet."
"Evans.... stop... You can't go down to the planet like that."
"But... I gotta..."
"I'm your boss Evans... the next shift starts at 10:00... go get some sleep. Then you can start a double shift."
Evans looked like a rabbit caught in headlights, as he mumbled to himself in confusion. "Ok..."
"Go... before I change my mind"

After Evans ran off; Soule stood before the booth, his arms wide, grinning cheekily at Izzy. "I told you I could nab us a seat."

She giggled at him, watching as Evans scurried out the door. “I can’t believe that worked… Just wait until he realizes it’s only 03:30. But from the looks of it I’m sure that he could use the extra sleep…”
She slid into the booth, patting the cushion next to her. “Have a seat..”

He slid in cosily beside her, snuggling into the seat. "Its all about the performance; the trick to a trick is being confident." He winked. "But tricks aside, I can't send him down like that... he's not got the stomach to keep this pace up. He's done three rotations already, and he needs the rest."

He paused for a moment, as his body melted into the seat. He gave a long sigh as he decompressed, and began to understand why Evans fell asleep. He gazed sleepily at Izzy, with a smile on his face. "So what are you having?"

She herself gave a sleepy sigh, snuggling in next to Soule. “Hm.. probably just a Belgian saison. Wine would probably knock me out right now.”

"I'm going to indulge in a hot chocolate. With marshmallows and whipped cream.... and chocolate powder on top... and maybe a cinnamon stick or two." He smiled giddily. "If you care to share some...."

"Oooh, That sounds really good. I think I like that better than the beer.. " She winked at him. "I'd love to share one."

"I thought you might." He grinned. "I'll go get it; I've got the perfect recipe in the database, and an awesome mug for it." He kissed her on the tip of her nose, as he slowly and unwillingly stood up. "Don't fall asleep whilst I'm gone." He kissed her again, before rushing off the replicator.

After a minute or so he returned, with a massive clear two handled mug, with a small mound of belgian chocolate capped whipped cream, a number of cinnamon sticks perched like straws and a number of various sized marshmallows scattered throughout the chocolate and cream. He placed it down on the table in front of Izzy, before skooching back down with her.

She gave him a wide grin as he returned with the mug. “Wow, it’s bigger than me..“ She snuggled back next to Soule as he sat down, and breathed in the aroma, smiling; starting to feel a little more perked up. “Mm, that smells delicious.” She took an exploratory taste of it, sipping the chocolate through one of the cinnamon sticks, and picking out a marshmallow from the cream with her finger.
“I haven’t had chocolate this good since the last time I was home. Actually, no, this is better..”

He chuckled at how cute she was; between the strange image of an Izzy sized mug in his head, and how seductive he found her eating marshmallow was. He gazed at her adoringly. "As you can tell; I really like chocolate. It tastes better when you share it with someone you love; scientific fact!" He took a refreshing sip, and cuddled into Izzy. "I'm glad you like it. Family recipe."

She scooted the mug over and took a longer sip, feeling a happy glow from the chocolate’s warmth. She wiped the cream mustache from her top lip and picked out another marshmallow, dipping it in the chocolate and cinnamon powder for a perfect blend of flavors.
“I think..” she grinned at him, feeding him the marshmallow.. “you might be right. It does taste better.”

He happily ate the marshmallow, sucking some loose cream off of Izzy's finger. He giggled as she wiped her little cream mustache off. "I think... you missed a bit..." He eyed her lips up. "Right... there." He leant in about to wipe cream off, before running his finger instead down her cheek and kissing her. He pulled away and smiled. “I think I got it all."

She smiled back and leant forward, kissing him again. “Hm.. yep, I think it’s gone now.. “ She gazed into his eyes as she kissed him, almost forgetting that she would have to go back on duty again in a few hours. It felt good to have a little bit of time to spend with Soule before he had to go down to the planet again. Especially since he was supposed to leave in just a few days to go on his mission.

Soule lost himself as he gazed into those big azure eyes of hers, glistening back at him. Despite what was happening on the planet, how long or how crappy the day had been; he was happy. He couldn't remember when he was last this happy, when his emotions were this simple yet so indescribable, when, if ever, he had felt so complete. He closed his eyes and sighed happily, opening them to see her still smiling back; an image he saved to his optical implant for safe keeping. "I love you, Isabelle."

“I love you too, Soule. So very much.” She held him close to her, closing her eyes and resting her head on his shoulder, letting out a blissful sigh. Peace and joy washed over her; being with Soule at the day’s end had made it worth waiting the long hours in between. She knew that soon there would be more waiting; days, or even weeks; but she had a sense that he would return safely home in the end. Something inside told her not to worry.

He put his arm around her, snuggling in, and kissed her on the forehead. He wished he could spend more time with her, between the next shift and the next mission; he didn't know when he was going to get quality time with her next. He savoured every moment, understanding truly what Imzadi meant.

Isabelle opened her eyes as he kissed her forehead; she reached up and smoothed a strand of hair away from his face, just looking at him, memorizing his every feature. “I’m glad you haven’t had to leave yet. This mission would have been twice as difficult without you. I hope you’re not gone too long.”

"I'm glad I haven't had to leave yet." He replied, running his hand down her cheek. "I dunno if me being here has made that much of a difference, but... its for people like those Teffens in the slums that I joined Starfleet; that and it was what every role model I've ever had wanted me to do. But I've seen things like this on a plenty of worlds; I understand the conditions they're living in, and the horrors they face... I just always wanted to make a difference, to stop things like this happening."

"I dont think I'll be gone long. I hope not... but I've got someone to rush home to now... and I will rush home as soon as the job is done." He smiled, ignoring the fear in the back of his head of not coming back; he refused to break her heart.

“But you have made a difference.” She smiled at him, looking into his eyes. “Since you’re head of tactical right now, you being on the planet keeping the peace has saved countless lives. Without you, they wouldn’t be getting the food and water and medicine that they need. And.. If you had already left, I doubt I’d have had the concentration to get much work done. And I’m not sure how much progress I’d have been able to make on the cure.” She winked at him. “I think you’ve made a bigger difference than you realise.. “

“And, I think you’ll be back before you know it.” She put her hand up to his cheek, placing another tender kiss on his lips. Outside through the window, the Teffen sunrise was just beginning to be visible from orbit; a fiery burst of red and orange flashed over the edge of planet’s rim. The light came through the window, washing over the both of them.

She left him utterly speechless; a rare instance. He could only kiss her back; she made his body go weak, and even if he didn't quite believe her, she didn't half make him feel all important. He had always loved a good sunrise, but he had the best view in the galaxy sat right in next to him. But a new day was dawning, and she gave him the strength to get through it. He looked into her eyes whispered. "Ya Amar, lets save a planet." Before kissing her again, and basking in the sun's rays.
