Mission Arc #5 - The Endless

Postby James Greenman » Wed Nov 26, 2014 6:45 pm

Mission Orders, Stardate 11412.01

TO: Captain Jonathan Parker, Commanding Officer USS SENTINEL
CC: Commander Claire Stradiot, Executive Officer USS SENTINEL

What little we've managed to glean from the Kressari Shoseth's files have shown him to be a misguided if dangerous individual, your crew has done well in seeing the situation resolved. If he had lived there would perhaps be less questions, more answers, but would and could will build no bridges. All relevant data has been passed to Starfleet Intelligence with the majority of his research and equipment. I've authorised a copy along with one of the functioning pods to be requisitioned to the Sentinel for further study. Either way, we're glad to have seen this situation resolved, and that the Sentinel was in the right place to do so.

As you're about to make your way through Klingon space, while technically the Alliance still stands I'm sure I don't need to remind you that it's stretching a little thin and tensions are high. Do not do anything to provoke a fight, honourable or otherwise, and hopefully your last leg of the journey to Starbase 123 will be uneventful. In the meantime, the Captain of the USS Artur has asked for a escort to H'Atoria in order to deliver their relief supplies to the Klingon colony there. The planet recently experienced some unexpected tectonic stress which caused a lot of damage to the colony, so the Artur is carrying valuable medical aid and three Federation Type-3 replicators to help solidify the relationship between the Klingons and the Federation, and hopefully ease some of the tension in the region.

Submit your flight plan with Starbase 157 and engage at best speed. Good luck, Captain.

Mission Briefing, Stardate 11412.01

To: Senior Staff, USS Sentinel

Subj: Mission Briefing

We've been ordered to depart in the morning for Starbase 123. We'll be escorting the Nebula-class USS Artur along her journey, and dropping her off at the Klingon colony on H'Atoria. The colony has been inundated with tectonic activity from the planet and they are in need of our help. It is the Federation's hope that our offer of aid will help to strengthen our now fragile alliance.

We'll be crossing through Klingon space to transit to Starbase 123. I can't emphasize how important it is that nothing happens that could jeopardize our standing with the Klingons. However, we must also be on our guard. There are factions in the Empire that no doubt would love to see us fall back into war.

XO: Ensure all personnel are aboard and ready to depart. Collect status reports from each department. Let me know when we're ready to depart. Additionally, your expertise may come in handy with our research of the pod we now have on board.

OPS: Signal for our permission to depart from Starbase 157, and send our thanks for the speedy repair work. Once we're on our way, see if your expertise can help Commander York with this pod he's got on board.

TAC: Ensign, I'd like your recommendations for traveling through Klingon space for security, both for us and the USS Artur. Ensure you let me know when we approach our border with the Empire.

CMO: Doctor, once Science completes its analysis of the colony, interface with the Medical teams on the USS Artur and see if we can lend them any assistance when we arrive. Until then, I'm sure you're curious about the pod we've got in Cargo Bay One. Take the lead on the research, and let me know what your staff find.

CSO: Lieutenant, have your department focus the Klingons and the area of space we're about to traverse. Your Starfleet Intelligence experience should come in handy here. See if what's causing the damage on H'Atoria is anything that we can help with and if the Artur's estimates are underestimated in terms of the medical supplies needed. Finally, let's not forget that we're a ship of exploration. Start finding us interesting areas of space to check out past Starbase 123. We can never be too soon in our desire to see the unknown.

ALL: It is a pleasure to be aboard, and I've only heard good things about this crew. Let's get to work.

Some sort of energy field has taken ship's power completely offline. We need to protect our ship and crew, that of the Artur, and then find out what happened.

XO: Take charge of and coordinate the repair efforts. Keep me apprised.

OPS: Ship's power is your main priority.

TAC: With shields down and main power offline, there is a security threat to the ship. Triple security patrols throughout the ship, be wary of anyone trying to transport aboard.

CSO: I'd like your department's hypothesis on what happened, and your analysis when power is restored.

MED: Assess the crew's health and treat who you can. Also, make preparations for emergency shelters should we fail to get life support back.

ALL: This is the best starship crew in all of Starfleet. We have our work cut out for us, but I know you're all capable. Let's get to work.

Crew, we have limited power and the Artur and Sentinel are still heading toward the gravity well of this planet. The tractor emitters bought us some time, but not much. It is imperative that we find a way to get power back to the impulse engines and get the Artur to safety, whether that be the entire ship or just her crew.

XO: I'll continue to supervise and direct the power distribution from Main Engineering. Focus your efforts on getting the Artur to safety

OPS: There has to be a way to use the shuttle's transporters as a relay point to beam Artur's crew to the Sentinel if need be. If it comes to that, make it your priority. See if we can tap into the pattern buffers at least on Sentinel using our shuttle systems to increase the throughput of crew we can beam off at a time.

TAC: Assist in any way you can.

CSO: I would still like your hypothesis on what has happened, however getting power back to the ship and rescuing the Artur takes priority. Think outside the box, I won't take a loss well.

MED: Assess the crew's health and treat who you can. I need a status update on our CMO at your earliest convenience.

ALL: This is the best starship crew in all of Starfleet. We have our work cut out for us, but I know you're all capable. Let's get to work.

Excellent job restoring power to the Sentinel, and for your work with the Artur. It appears that we are stable ... for now.

XO: We need to figure out what happened and what the lasting effects on the ship and our mission are. Coordinate with the various departments to do so.

Operations: Lieutenant Baudin, see if there's a way we can store more energy in reserve in case this were to happen again. Coordinate with Engineering as you see fit.

Science: As we bring our sensor systems online, work on figuring out what caused this drain in the first place.

Tactical: Full tactical analysis of the situation, Mister Kahl.

Medical: I need a full update on Commander York at your earliest convenience.

Once more unto the breech. That is all.

As the Away Team attempts to locate the source of our power drain, we must keep vigilance in orbit and be ready to beam them out at a moment's notice. The XO will be handling Away Team operations on the surface.

Tactical: Maintain Yellow Alert. Coordinate with Operations to be ready to lower shields to beam our team back at a moment's notice. Continue surveillance for any signs of the sensor blip we previously saw.

Operations: See how we can shorten the time to get the crew aboard. Other than that, maintain communications with our Away Team and do what you do best.

Carry on.

Epilogue

The station was quiet, green lighting casting odd shadows across the empty promenade. A screen inset into the wall flickers on, subspace static showing at first before clearing into an image. It's hard to make out, but eventually a few items are noticeable, a few ship diagrams, the Romulan sigil, then the Klingon one followed by some of their angular and disturbing language. Then a face.

"This is Rick Nix reporting for the Federation News Network. Our top story today; Renewed hostilities between the Klingon Empire and the Romulans have ignited this week after a series of attacks upon freighters carrying medical supplies. Reports show some kind of new energy dampening weapon were put into use against the Romulan vessels, which were then stripped of valuables and scuttled.

There's some more static, a brief burst of imagery showing a grizzled Klingon gesticulating triumphantly. A metal eyepatch over one eye and an odd crystal dagger at his hip.

"....A new era!....for....glorious House BratH! .....upon......works and tremble at the.....might of the Klingon Empire!"

The image stabilises once more, a Bolian new anchor staring out jovially with the images behind him changing, showing scenes of battles and dramatic representations of what may have happened.

"The Klingon House 'BratH' has claimed responsibility for the development of this new weapon, but details at the moment are sketchy. Reports from Klingon space claim that House BratH have been elevated to a seat on the Klingon High Council, however, putting proof to those rumours. Starfleet brass is remaining quiet on the matter. We'll have more for you on this story as it comes available."

The screen cuts off, what little power the was in the surge failing to once more cast the empty corridor in the green emergency lights and nothing more, the station once again falling deathly silent.
