Daylight Savings

Postby C. J. Short » Sun Mar 09, 2014 3:39 pm

Most of North America is now on DST, but I know Europe doesn't enter DST until the 30th. I know how we did it in a previous game, but how are we handling DST in STE?

We'll be using UTC always, that's what the event calendar on the site is built around and it's the universal time standard. So it is currently 5pm UTC, 1PM, Eastern, 11AM, Mountain, etc, etc.

I'll add a clock to the home page with UTC, so that everyone is sure. :)

That may bump me from the Hooke and Rho for a few weeks then. I'll see what I can do. Saturn will be fine.

If it's strictly going by UTC, then that means that, for me, all my ships will run an hour later that they initially did until late October. Is that the intent? Or are we waiting until Europe goes to DST, and then moving everything back to their original time, like we used to do?

As an example:

I signed up for the Hyperion to run on Thursdays, 20:00 UTC. Pacific Standard Time is UTC -8, which means it ran at 12pm. During daylight savings, Pacific time becomes UTC -7, meaning the ship runs at 1PM.

Once the Eastern Hemisphere has caught up with DST, the ships will go back to their original times, yes. It's only for two weeks, and it's a pain, but it'll be over shortly. :)

That's fine, it's just not the same as saying "We'll be using UTC always." :j:

Normal gametime has resumed.

At least until the next daylight savings. :frogsiren:
